Hi everyone,
My name is Gabriel Fono, and I am the CEO and Founder of RateMyMajor.
We’re building a platform to help students choose their major based on real-life experiences shared by others, both in school and the workforce. The goal is to help students make informed decisions about their major for a better future and career. The worst thing that could happen is to major in something and later feel unfulfilled. I truly believe that choosing the right major is one of the most important career decisions a person can make.
The platform allows people who have already graduated and are working professionally to share their experiences. This is incredibly valuable for someone still in school, trying to decide on a degree that will lead to a successful career. Additionally, hearing from someone already working in the field can help others in the same field reflect, update their career goals, and feel more confident about what they are doing.
I launched the platform a few months ago, and I’ve gathered some initial feedback. Unfortunately, the app was hosted on Heroku, and we were using a database service called ClearDB, which discontinued its service. Due to being the sole founder and managing a full-time job, I wasn’t able to transfer the data in time, and I lost everything.
Now, I’m working on refining the form questions to ensure they are meaningful and helpful. I’d love your feedback on the current form—please let me know if you think it’s too long, too short, or if there are specific questions we should be asking.
Your input is invaluable to me as I redesign the platform to better serve both students and professionals. Together, we can help students and professionals make better decisions for a brighter future.
