App Description

I’ve decided to build in public—partly to help remember what I did (for a book that I’ll never write), partly because the internet says that’s how you build an audience. This will be an experiment for that as well.

Today’s progress:

• Signed up for SemRush to understand my SEO performance. After skimming over their tons of features, fell into the backlinks rabbit hole.

• Used ChatGPT to find alternatives and jumped to OpenLinkProfiler because it’s free. SemRush has a 7-day free trial, but I’m still traumatized by LinkedIn charging me $160 when I forgot to cancel my trial in time. Warning, this free tool shows a popup for another product each time I paginate to the next results.

– SemRush also promoted a Chrome extension that helps me check number backlinks (screenshot) so I also installed that.

• I don’t understand how some startups can have so many links. Did they hire someone to do this? Dug into backlinks for other similar products and stumbled on a blog post listing competitors I didn’t even know existed. Cool, more reasons to quit.

• Submitted my web app to a few directories (like Betalist) to boost SEO and visibility, but I don’t feel ready for Product Hunt just yet.

* Writing this Reddit post to kick off my building in public phase.

I’m afraid to share any links (the directory, SEO tools). (Un?)like some of you, my posts have been banned before. DM me if you’d like to learn more specifics!

Subscriptions are like gym memberships—you sign up with hope, forget about them, and pay for months of guilt.
